TOKYO LEGACY HALF

Charity

Through running, we aim to provide opportunities for people to think about how they can make a contribution to society, such as getting involved in charitable activities, promoting sports, protecting the environment, supporting refugees throughout the world, supporting children with incurable diseases, and animal protection. We hope to link the hearts of each individual with society. This vision underpins the running of the Tokyo Marathon Foundation’s "RUN with HEART" charity program.

The Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon Charity will focus on creating a brighter future with different non-profit organizations to tackle social issues together through the sport of running.

    About Programs
It is unfair that a child's hopes and dreams are left unfulfilled because of the environment they were brought up in or because of natural disasters. NPO Kidsdoor was founded in 2007 to increase the opportunities that underprivileged children can have, and subsequently create a fairer society. Due to a lack of access to funds, many children don't go on to further education, putting them in a disadvantaged position when seeking jobs, repeating the poverty cycle. To break the poverty cycle, we provide free educational and social spaces in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Tohoku (Sendai and Minanisanriku) for children from primary school to high school who miss out on educational opportunities due to their economic backgrounds. Furthermore, we provide supplies such as food and stationery, and career support to low-income families.

    About Programs
The planned forests of cedars and cypresses, which account for about 60% of the forests in the Tama area of Tokyo, have not been adequately cared for due to the prolonged slump in lumber prices and other factors, and the forest cycle of "logging - lumberuse - planting - maintenance" has stagnated in recent years. Many of the cedar and cypress forests have reached the end of their useful lives, but are not being utilization, which are the main cause of pollinosis. For this reason, we are working with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to promote "Low-Pollen Forests" to reduce the amount of cedar and cypress pollen by cutting down planned forests in Tama and planting low-pollen cedar and other trees under proper care and management.

We are also advocating SRHR in Japanese society, including proposing companies incorporate SRHR perspectives into their health management.

    About Programs
In Japan, about 200,000 children are facing serious illnesses such as pediatric cancer. Some of these children say that their dream is to "play outside" because they have few opportunities to do so during their long and painful struggling with their illnesses. The mission is to invite children with serious illnesses, and their families, to the Solaputi Kids’ Camp for nature-based outdoor experiences with on-site medical care for free. The children and their families can fully enjoy Hokkaido's bountiful nature without any concern for their illnesses. Our goal is that children in the grip of illnesses and their families feel relaxed and get the energy to carry on living by spending invaluable time in Solaputi Kids' Camp. The construction and operation of this campsite with medical care is supported by donations and volunteers.

    About Programs
Friends Without a Border Japan provides pediatric medical support to children in Laos, Cambodia, and other Asian countries. We opened Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) in Luang Prabang (Laos) in 2015, where we provide free medical care in a compassionate environment with the intent of establishing a locally sustainable hospital by and for the Lao people. LFHC’s guiding ethos is “Treat every patient as if your own child.” Many of our patients are children who require inpatient care. Receiving proper treatment can save their lives. Your generous donation will help us save as many lives as possible by providing essential care to those hospitalized children at LFHC in Laos.

    About Programs
As partners in the global Teach For ALL network spanning over 60 countries, we are driving the resolution of educational challenges on a global scale through various policy collaborations and information sharing. The fellowship program operated by Teach For Japan started from 2013, and has delivered for 12 years. In 2024, the scope of the program has been extended to 87 cities, the number of fellows who were sent to school was 320, and the number of children involved exceeds 40,000.
On the other hand, education reform in Japan is currently undergoing a major turning point. As mentioned in the OECD report, unfortunately the overtime work hours of Japanese teachers and the development situation of ICT environment are the worst class in the world. We believe that the mission and potential needs that Teach For Japan should fulfill are very large. We believe that our efforts to produce "teachers" at school and to be involved in the core of public education will play a very important role in solving these issues.

    About Programs
We aim to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, while taking advantage of the opportunities available during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Currently, we have 8 teams to work on corporating programs for each theme with NPOs and individual activists, including Education/Diversity Messages, Culture/History/Archive, Wellness/Support, Athlete Messages, Celebration/Sports event/Volunteer, Creation of a safe space, Creation of mechanisms, and Legacy operation. We opened Japan’s first permanent LGBTQ+ center “Pride House Tokyo Legacy'' in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward on October 11.
