東京レガシーハーフマラソンチャリティまで残り1か月を切りました。
ランナーの皆さんは体調にお気をつけてお過ごしください。

さて、今回は子どもの体験格差と私たちキッズドアの取り組みについて紹介させていただきます。

With the continuing rain and increasingly chilly days, we hope you are all doing well.
There is now less than a month left until the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon Charity.
We hope all the runners are taking good care of their health.

In this update, we would like to introduce the issue of the "experience gap" among children and the initiatives we are undertaking at KIDSDOOR.

子どもたちの未来を考えるとき、「教育格差」という言葉を耳にする機会が増えています。
しかし、学習機会だけでなく「体験格差」もまた子どもたちの成長や将来に大きな影響を与える重要な課題です。

今回は、子どもの体験格差とは何か、なぜ解消が必要なのか、
そしてこの夏に私たちが実施した体験活動についてご紹介します。

When discussing children's futures, people often talk about the "education gap."

However, another important issue that can significantly influence a child's growth and future opportunities is the "experience gap."

In this article, we would like to explain what the experience gap is, why it matters, and how our organization is working to provide meaningful opportunities for children.

子どもの体験格差とは？

子どもたちが健やかに成長し、自らの可能性を広げていくためには、
お金だけでなく、さまざまな経験や人とのつながりが必要です。

教育格差の解消は、世代を超えて続く貧困の連鎖を断ち切るための重要な取り組みです。
そして、学力や将来の選択肢を広げるためには、次の3つの資本が欠かせないと考えられています。

経済的資本：学習や生活を支えるためのお金
文化資本：スポーツや芸術、自然体験など、さまざまな経験を通じて得られる知識や価値観
社会関係資本：信頼できる大人や仲間とのつながり

しかし、経済的に厳しい状況にある家庭では、習い事やスポーツ、文化活動への参加が難しい場合があります。
また、休日に家族で外出したり、学校以外で多様な大人と出会ったりする機会も限られがちです。

その結果、子どもたちが将来に向けて必要な「文化資本」や「社会関係資本」を
十分に得られない状況が生まれています。
これが「体験格差」です。

What Is the Experience Gap?

For children to grow, learn, and reach their full potential, they need more than financial resources. They also need opportunities to experience different activities, explore new interests, and build meaningful relationships with others.

Addressing educational inequality is an important step toward breaking the cycle of poverty that can continue across generations. To succeed academically and expand their future opportunities, children need three important forms of support:

Economic Capital: Financial resources that support learning and daily life.
Cultural Capital: Knowledge, skills, values, and perspectives gained through experiences such as sports, arts, cultural activities, and interaction with nature.
Social Capital: Relationships with supportive adults, mentors, peers, and communities.

Unfortunately, children from low-income families often have fewer opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, sports programs, cultural events, or family outings. They may also have limited chances to meet role models and interact with people outside their immediate environment.

As a result, these children may miss out on valuable experiences and relationships that help them build confidence, develop interests, and imagine future possibilities. This inequality in access to experiences is what we call the experience gap.

体験格差が子どもたちに与える影響

体験活動は単なる楽しい思い出づくりではありません。

さまざまな体験を通して、子どもたちは「できた」という成功体験を積み重ね、自信を育みます。
また、新しい世界に触れることで興味や関心が広がり、「将来こんなことをしてみたい」
という夢や目標を見つけるきっかけにもなります。

短期的な影響

体験活動は、

学ぶことへの意欲の向上
自己肯定感の向上
コミュニケーション能力の向上
困難に立ち向かう力や挑戦する気持ちの醸成

などにつながります。

長期的な影響

さらに、子ども時代の豊かな体験は、

学習意欲の継続
将来の進学や就職の選択肢の拡大
社会とのつながりの強化
貧困の連鎖を断ち切る可能性の向上

など、人生全体にわたる大きな力になると考えられています。

だからこそ、どのような家庭環境で育った子どもであっても、
多様な体験に触れられる機会を持つことが重要なのです。

How Does the Experience Gap Affect Children?

Experiences are much more than enjoyable memories. They play a crucial role in helping children develop the skills, confidence, and resilience they need throughout life.

Through new experiences, children discover their strengths, gain confidence from their achievements, and learn to overcome challenges. Exposure to different activities and environments can also spark curiosity and inspire future dreams.

Short-Term Impact

Meaningful experiences can help children:

Increase their motivation to learn
Build self-confidence and self-esteem
Improve communication and social skills
Develop resilience and a willingness to take on new challenges
Long-Term Impact

Over time, these experiences can contribute to:

Stronger engagement in education
Broader career and educational opportunities
Greater social connectedness
Increased chances of breaking the cycle of poverty

This is why it is so important to ensure that every child, regardless of their family's financial circumstances, has access to diverse and enriching experiences.

この夏に実施した体験活動

長期休みは、子どもたちの「体験格差」が最も見えやすくなる時期です。
経済的な事情などで、旅行やイベント、自然体験に参加する機会を持てない子どもたちもいます。
私たちは、この夏、子どもたちが新しい発見や挑戦を楽しめる体験活動を実施し、忘れられない思い出づくりを応援しました。その一部を紹介します。

Our Summer Programs

School holidays can highlight the gap in opportunities that children experience. While some children enjoy trips, events, and enriching activities, others miss out due to financial or family circumstances. This summer, we organized a range of activities to give children the chance to explore, learn, and create happy memories that will stay with them for years to come.Here is a look at some of them.

活動に参加した子どもたちからは、

「初めて体験した！」

「また挑戦してみたい！」

「将来こんな仕事をしてみたいと思った！」

といった前向きな声が聞かれました。

子どもたちが新しい世界に触れ、自信や好奇心を育んでいく姿は、私たちにとっても大きな喜びです。

Many participating children shared positive feedback, such as:

"It was my first time trying this activity."

"I want to challenge myself and try it again."

"This experience made me think about what I want to do in the future."

Seeing children discover new possibilities, develop confidence, and expand their horizons continues to inspire our work every day.

子どもたちの未来のために

体験格差は、目に見えにくい課題です。
しかし、子どもたちの可能性や将来の選択肢に大きく関わる重要な社会課題でもあります。

私たちはこれからも、経済的な事情にかかわらず、すべての子どもたちが豊かな体験に出会えるよう、
さまざまな機会の提供に取り組んでまいります。
