ウォーターエイドジャパンが寄付先団体として参加しているチャリティマラソンに、チャリティランナーとして参加し、すべての人に清潔な水・衛生を届ける活動をご支援くださっている方々が多くいます。2026年3月1日(日)に開催される東京マラソン2026には、国内外からエントリーした114名の皆さまが、ウォーターエイドのチャリティランナーとして出走されます。今回は、そのなかのおひとり、イムランさんを紹介します。

1. 自己紹介

私はイギリス出身のマラソンランナーです。高校で人文・社会科学の教師をしています。

2. ランニングを始めたきっかけは何ですか？

ランニングによって、循環器やメンタルヘルスへの良い効果を実感したことです。

3. ウォーターエイドのために走る動機は何ですか？

安全な水を世界中に届けるウォーターエイドの活動に強い関心があるからです。高校教師である私は、地理学の授業で、地下水などの水資源やスラム地域の衛生問題を取り上げ、きれいな水が利用できることの大切さを教えています。　 

4. 次の目標は？

世界各地で開催されている主要なマラソン大会を制覇することです。 

5. ウォーターエイドの支援者、スタッフ、コミュニティに何かメッセージはありますか？ 

優しさにあふれる、素晴らしい活動に感謝しています。ありがとうございます。

WaterAid Japan has been partnering with several charity marathons, including the Tokyo Marathon 2026 Charity. We deeply appreciate the dedication of runners who run with purpose, helping to ensure access to clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene for everyone, everywhere. 

In this article, we are pleased to introduce one of our runners, Imran Khimji, who is taking on the Tokyo Marathon 2026 Charity as part of Team WaterAid. Imran is passionate about tackling global water issues through active participation in charity marathons worldwide and by inspiring young minds as a high school educator.

1. Tell us about yourself
I am a keen marathon runner from the UK. I am a high school humanities and social science teacher. 

2. What made you start running in the first place? How many years? 
I like the benefit for cardiovascular health and mental health. 

3. What motivates you to run for WaterAid? 
I am passionate about the work Water Aid does around the world helping people to access water safely. I teach about the importance of accessing water safely in my Geography lessons for example about aquifers and about sanitation in the slums.

4. What is your next target or aim? 

I want to try to complete all of the world's major marathons. 

5. Any messages? (WaterAid supporters, staff or/and community)
