こんにちは！日本対がん協会です。

みなさんは日本では年間100万人前後が新たにがんと診断されており、生涯で二人に一人ががんに罹患する時代といわれているのをご存知でしょうか。
今やがんは私たちにとって身近な病気です。

がんに関する思いは世界共通です。
今回は日本、アメリカから日本対がん協会のチャリティランナーとして参加いただく二人のがん医療に従事している医師から寄せられた思いを紹介させていただきます。

Hello! We are Japan Cancer Society.
Did you know that in Japan, approximately1 million people are newly diagnosed with cancer every year, and it is said that one in two people will develop cancer in their lifetime? Cancer has now become a familiar disease to us..
The sentiments toward cancer are shared universally across the world.
This time, we are pleased to share the heartfelt messages from two physicians engaged in cancer care, one from Japan and one from the United States, who will be participating as charity runners for the Japan Cancer Society.

私は医師としてがん患者さんと接しております。
昨年、東京レガシーハーフマラソンを貴協会のチャリティランナーとして走らせていただき、患者さんから「先生が走っている姿に勇気をもらった」と声をいただいたことが今も心に残っています。今後も、がん患者さんの支援と社会への啓発に貢献したいです。

As a physician, I work closely with cancer patients.
Last year, I had the honor of running the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon as a charity runner for your esteemed organization. I still vividly remember a patient telling me, “Seeing you run gave me courage.” Those words remain deeply in my heart.
Moving forward, I hope to continue contributing to the support of cancer patients and raising awareness throughout society.

東京マラソンにチャリティランナーとして参加し、日本対がん協会を支援させていただきたいという強い願いをここに表明いたします。この活動は、がん外科医・医師としての立場だけでなく、愛する家族をがんで失った一人の人間として、私にとって非常に大切で個人的な意味を持っています。

私の父は、私が9歳のときにがんで亡くなりました。家族が直面した闘病の苦しみや深い悲しみを目の当たりにした経験は、私の人生を大きく方向づけました。その時、「いつか自分が医師となり、がんと闘う人々を支えたい」という決意を胸に刻みました。現在、私はがん外科医として日々患者さんと向き合い、父の闘病中に願った思いやりと切実さ、そして最善の治療を込めて診療にあたっています。

日本対がん協会を支援しながら東京マラソンを走ることは、父への個人的な追悼であると同時に、私の人生の使命そのものに対する改めての誓いでもあります。また、それはがん予防や早期発見、治療の推進といった重要な取り組みに対する理解と支援を広げる大切な機会になると信じています。

42.195kmを走り抜くことは、忍耐・希望・そして記憶の象徴です。がんは愛する人を奪うかもしれません。しかし、私たちが立ち向かい続ける意志まで奪うことはできません。

私の応募をご検討いただき、誠にありがとうございます。この意義あるイベントで日本対がん協会の代表として走らせていただければ、これ以上の名誉はございません。

I would like to express my sincere desire to run the Tokyo Marathon as a charity runner in support of the Japan Cancer Society. This cause is deeply personal to me, not only as a cancer surgeon and doctor but as someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one to this devastating disease.
My father passed away from cancer when I was 9 years old. Witnessing the struggle and the emotional toll it took on our family shaped my life in profound ways. It was during that painful time that I resolved to pursue a career in medicine, with the hope of one day helping others in their fight against cancer. Today, as a cancer surgeon, I dedicate my life to treating patients with the same compassion, urgency, and care I wished for my father during his illness.
Running the Tokyo Marathon in support of the Japan Cancer Society would be both a personal tribute to my father and a professional commitment to the cause that defines my life's work. It would also be a way to raise awareness and funds to support cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment efforts that are so critically needed across Japan and beyond.
Completing the marathon would be a symbol of endurance, hope, and remembrance-a message that while cancer may take loved ones from us, it cannot take away our will to fight back.
Thank you for considering my application. I would be honored to represent the Japan Cancer Society in this meaningful event.
