東京おもちゃ美術館は、ぬくもりあふれるおもちゃを手に取って遊ぶことのできる体験型施設です。「おもちゃ」や「遊び」というと、どうしても小さな子どもを連想しがちですが、実はおもちゃには人と人、人と社会をつなげる無限の可能性があります。私たちはおもちゃと遊びを通して誰もが安心して楽しめるインクルーシブな社会を目指しています。

Hello. We are Tokyo Toy Museum/NPO Asociation for the Arts, Toy and Playing Activities. The Tokyo Toy Museum is a hands-on facility where visitors can pick up and play with toys brimming with warmth. The words ‘toy’ and ‘play’ tend to be associated with small children, but in fact toys have unlimited potential to connect people to people and people to society. Through toys and play, we aim to create an inclusive society where everyone can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

現代人が失いつつある「生きる力」

「美しいものをこよなく愛する子どもたち　みにくいものを美しいものに変える力を持つ子どもたち」ーこれは、おもちゃ美術館の創設者が残したメッセージです。美しいものとは「平和」、みにくいものとは「戦争」を意味しています。私たちはこの世に生まれて最初に「おもちゃ」というアートを手にし、五感で感じ、心を育み、想像力をふくらませ、他者とのコミュニケーション力を身に着けます。それらは言葉で語りつくせない「生きる力」といえるのではないでしょうか。

Children who love beautiful things Children who have the power to transform the ugly into beautiful things" - this is the message left by the founder of the Toy Museum. Beautiful things mean peace, and ugly things mean war. When we are born into this world, we first come into contact with the art of toys, which nurture our senses, nurture our hearts, expand our imagination and develop our communication skills. This is a “power of life” that cannot be fully expressed in words.

ところが現代社会においては、五感を使った体験の機会が著しく減っています。想像力を働かせなくても、検索ボタン一つで簡単に答えが手に入ります。コミュニケーションの必要性も激減しました。そこで私たちは、どんな人も楽しめる「おもちゃ」というツールを通して、人々の「生きる力」を取り戻したいと考えています。

In modern society, however, there are significantly fewer opportunities to experience using the five senses. Answers are easily available at the touch of a search button, without the need to use imagination. The need for communication has also decreased dramatically. We therefore want to restore people's “zest for life” once again through the tool of “toys”, which can be enjoyed by all.

遊びは「つながり」のきっかけ

Play is a catalyst for “connection”

おもちゃ美術館には数万点を超えるおもちゃを収蔵していますが、ただディスプレイしているだけでは役目を果たすことができません。遊びの伝道師である「おもちゃ学芸員」がおもちゃ美術館で来館者を迎え入れ、楽しい時間を共有します。また、医療・介護福祉の現場においてもQOLを高める遊びを提供しています。遊びを通して人は自然に笑顔を交わし合い、つながりがつながりを生むことで、リレーのようにバトンが受け継がれていきます。

Toy museums have a large collection of toys in their collections, but they cannot fulfil their role simply by displaying them. Volunteer Toy curators, who are playtime evangelists, welcome visitors to the toy museum and share a fun time with them. We also provide play to improve quality of life in medical and nursing care settings. Through play, people naturally exchange smiles with each other, and as connections beget connections, the baton is passed on like a relay.
